what to know before class
I offer public yoga at various studios and locations, as well as offer private studio lessons, group instruction and yoga2home, but the information here applies wherever I teach. Please see the schedule for all classes taught by me and what kind of yoga I do for information on yoga.
Studios are ideally heated 85-95 degrees. Classes
are physically challenging and all levels will benefit
from this exercise. Asanas (poses) can be modified
for all levels, including those blessed with pregnancy,
as well as those working with injuries. Please contact me
if you have questions about modifications for your injuries,
and see a qualified healthcare professional (before coming
to class) if you have specific concerns about your health
condition. I generally recommend regular practice (3-5
times a week) to see benefits.
Practice guidelines
1.Please arrive a few minutes early. I shut the door when class starts.
2.Please be clean. Avoid smoking, wearing colognes, perfumes, or scented creams to class. Please also keep your clothes and feet fresh.
3.Please turn off your cell phones, or other iThings that may beep or make noises.
4.Each class please notify me of any recent injuries and/or surgeries so that modifications can be offered.
5.Avoid eating heavy meals 2-3 hours before class. Also avoid large amounts of any beverage/liquid.
6.Water is recommended. Please bring your own, as water is not provided.
7.Take a seat or lie down on your back facing the front of the room (often the mirror) and wait for class to begin. Please rest quietly, being considerate of other students.
8.Yoga mats are NOT ideal for this practice and are not available for rental in most locations. A regular bath or beach towel is the preferred choice. (The Sun Room is an exception - it is suggested to bring a mat to this hardwood floor studio.)
9.It is highly suggested to rest for 5-10 minutes after class in a final resting pose. If you can not stay for these 5-10 minutes, please leave quietly so as not to disturb others.
10.Drink lots of water after class to rehydrate your body.
11.I recommend regular practice (3-5 times a week) to see benefits.
12.Wear comfortable clothes to stretch in (see below). Practice is best done barefoot.
What to wear
Remember less is better, the studios are often hot and long clothing keeps you from seeing proper alignment. Try to wear form fitting clothing, and avoid wearing long, loose or baggy clothing as it gets in the way. Dress as if you are going for a run on a warm day.
Women: Please wear short yoga pants or shorts. Capri pants are MUCH better then ankle length pants.
Men: Please wear shorts. Sweat pants are not ideal. Shirts are optional, during practice.
